A Healthy One-Day Menu
The estimated daily caloric requirement for a sedentary Filipina who weighs 50kg is 1,200 to 1,500 calories, while for very active Filipinas, it's 1,800 to 2,000 calories.
Healthy snacks can keep you from binging when it's time for lunch and dinner. Here's a sample one-day menu.
Breakfast: 1 cup brown rice, 1 palm-size serving of fish, 1 egg and 1 glass low fat milk.
Morning Snack: 1 piece of fruit, like a banana or apple. (My favorite is a banana with peanut butter, so delish!)
Lunch: 1 cup tomato-based pasta with chicken or sardines, 2 cups green salad with low-fat dressing.
Afternoon Snack: 1 piece whole wheat pan de sal with tuna (hold the mayo, or at least lessen it, of you can)
Dinner: Half a cup of rice, 1 serving grilled, steamed or boiled firsh or chicken , 1 cup sauteed mixed vegetables (carrots, beans, cabbage, onions, tomatoes)
Curb Your Cravings
Oh this one will be very, very helpful!
- Give yourself a "cheat" day. Say like, Friday is eat-what-you-want day but set a limit.
- Wait 15-20 minutes before you eat. "This will allow the hormones to decrease before your body responds to the craving, so that you will not eat more than what your body really needs," says Dr. Victoria Robles.
- STOP snacking on sodium-heavy junk food. This will only make you eat more salt and fat. You don't want that, right? RIGHT??? :)
Here are some alternative foods to eat instead of going for another bag of chips.
- Fresh fruit like bananas (great with peanut butter, you try it!)
- Apple chips or camote chips
- Cereal bars (my favorite one starts with the letter O. Haha! It goes with a lot satisfying flavors available in all leading supermarket)
- Mix it up (try mixing up raisins and nuts that aren't fried or glistening with oil)
- Whole wheat crackers with tuna or sardines (for omega 3 and 6)
There you go, start eating right now or be sorry forever! Nah, just kidding! hehe... Exercise helps you burn unwanted calories of course. If you're not someone who really hits the gym just to exercise, you can try
- walking around your village for 30 minutes everyday... walking is a good way of doing cardio exercise.
- clean the house! yah, very practical! :)
- swimming
- DANCING! Just put on that headset and dance your heart out to an upbeat song
- walking your dog outside
wow!
