"The Time has Come for My Dreams to be Heard"

Just like the title of this blog, The Time has Come for my Dreams to be Heard, my time really has come! A week before our semestral break, our Arts Appreciation professor planned on having a "Talents' Day" for the class. All we had to do was sing. The day came and we're all excited! Complete with a "Magic Sing" equipment, projector and a real good sound system, we're on! I really didn't know what song to sing since, well, it's not much of an effort. Haha! I chose "Because of You" by Kelly Clarkson. When it was my turn, I got really nervous and excited all at the same time. After that my classmates were all cheering and clapping for me! It felt good.

A couple of days after that event, I bumped into one of my girl classmates and told me to audition for the upcoming singing contest for our Nurses' Week Celebration because she will be the organizer. I said yes and we exchanged numbers. To make it short, I got in for the Singing Contest! Boy, was I ecstatic and very, very happy since it's my FIRST time to join a singing contest and so all my friends and classmates were happy for me too. Even my Clinical Instructors were excited and they said that I'm gonna win, no doubt!

They said, to achieve success you must be prepared for it. I got in touch with my former voice coach who also happened to be Sarah Geronimo's coach when she won the Star For A Night search a few years back. I asked if I could train again because I'm going to compete for the first time. He said yes and we started working it. First thing when joining a competition is to choose a really, really good song. So before starting the sessions with my coach, I searched for a song to sing for the competition. My first choice was Note to God by Charice then decided against it. I want a really good ending and yep, the song is good but I feel like something's missing so I looked again. This time, I happened to come across Charice's perfomance at the Oscar's where she sang Listen. It got me the goosebumps all over! The vocals were just so good, the stage performance was amazing. I found the song for me! It took me six sessions to perfect the song. I felt that I'm ready, and will really get a place. I sounded good, I practiced my hand moves and eye contact with the people and everyhting...

The day came, it was January 13, 2011. The Auditorium was packed! Some were standing already. It's gonna be great day for us nurses, I thought. I made friends with the other contestants and we even prayed together before our turn came. I was the sixth contestant that night and all I could remember was the cheering and clapping of the people when I stepped out of the backstage. I sang Listen. My coach told me that a song is like a story. So when you sing, it's also like telling a story to everybody. I did just like what he told me. All of the hard work paid off when I was pronounced as the Champion with an average score of 95%! It was surreal like is this really happening or what?! It was my first time to join a contest all my life!

Thank you, Jesus for giving me this talent.
